Why plum? A plum job??

I came across this expression, 'plum assignment'.
plum assignment という表現に出くわした。

Is this expression common?

How come it means something like 'extremely desirable, rewarding or profitable'?
なんで、「すごくおいしい」とか「やりがいがある」、「利益の出る」という意味になるんだろ？

All that goes through my mind when I hear this relatively unfamiliar fruit's name is, roulette wheel.
イマイチなじみのないこの果物の名前を聞いて頭をよぎるものといえば、ルーレットのアレだな。

Nah. A quick search revealed that plummet was derived from a French word plommet, which meant lead.
いや、ちょっと調べたら、plummetは鉛を意味するフランス語のplommetというのから来てるらしいことが分かった。
