I attached the feast which we had in New Year!
Different from Chinese New Year, Japanese New Year is January the first.
Usually we relatives get together and have this kind of traditional feast.

Each dished have some kind of meaning like hoping our prosperity, health, and something like that.

First, you can see the multitiered box, which means "the layered of happiness".
For example black beans are the charm against evil. Lotus, you can see the bright future through it. Snapper, for success in life.

On the left bottom of this picture, you can see what we call, Kagamimochi.
Kagamimochi are sets of two round, flat rice cakes, in which a smaller one is placed on top of a larger one. Kagami-mochi are offerings to the god of the New Year.It is believed that eating them has the power to make people healthy and happy in the coming year.

Every year we eat this Osechi, and go shrine for praying for happiness and good health in the coming year.
And then we watch TV and relax as holidays.
