"Let's cash in on this."

This expression makes me uncomfortable.

"in"? "in on"?

We didn't get lots of practice at school for that.

If you mean to "Let's cash in on this" as to make a profit from something, then it is indeed "in on".

It is mainly used in movies when illegal activities are used to gain a profit.

Phrasal verbs. Sort of like you have 書く and 書き込む, we (instead of mixing 2 verbs together) use prepositions to do this. Thusly, "to cash in" would be a verb in it's own right, separate of "to cash."
