danielbml : Can we prevent crimes? (0)

I tried to write an essay about this topic to my class and I hope you'll have patience to read and correct it. :)

“Nothing can be done to prevent crime”. Such statement seems too inflexible as it is. I’d say: “nothing can be done to prevent all crimes all the time.” It might sound a little pessimistic, but it’s true. We’ll always have to face grief, pain and desolation as a result of countless varieties of crimes caused by an inherent corruption into the mind of the mankind.
Unfortunately, we’re prone to make bad choices and reap undesirable outcomes. The difference is that most of us have some self-control, but in time of need human beings can change drastically their personality. That’s why we can’t prevent all crimes every time or build a perfect society: because we are still plain humans. But we can improve on an environment by providing a higher level of education and security. In doing so, there will be a decrease in the attempts of crimes, since a higher level of social development was properly provided.
The Third World is well-known by having a high level of poverty and all sorts of crimes. This is a consequence of bad governments that haven’t provided the least welfare throughout the centuries. However, Brazil has been doing some progress regarding crime prevention and social development, as the population has been pleading for changes lately.
In its turn, even in a decent society no lacking primary needs there will be another kind of crimes, apparently harmless and committed underground, such as: political corruption, bribery, money laundering, extortion, etc. The environment can change, but the mindset is still the same – with tendency to ambition, greed and selfishness. Therefore, we prevent crimes not by kitting ourselves out in brand-new high-tech weapons or an efficient secret service, but by creating a whole environment that allows a definite change in our mindsets.

danielbml : Stand by Me (movie) (1)

Below, there is an attempt to write a description about the main character, Gordie LaChance (please, correct my mistakes):

Every member of this gang seems to have an emotional burden. Gordie LaChance is the main character who has writing skills. However, he faces the recent death of his brother – a successful football player and a beloved son.

Being aware of his father parental preferences and disappointments, Gordie struggles with low self-esteem in spite of being talented. Nevertheless, he’s the most balanced of the small gang which engages in an outrageous adventure in which the four boys experience the peak of the true fellowship in their lives.

danielbml : Your leisure time deserves stylishness (1)

(this is only an idea about an article more formal for my English class)

Have you ever thought about reward yourself with an unforgettable holiday time? Perhaps, you will have to save extra money for that, yet fond memories are worth any amount.

We are talking about Seefeld, a small village surrounded by mountains in the heart of the Austrian Alps. If you are skier or snowboarder there are fantastic well-prepared slopes in two large skiing areas so that you can experience the most enjoyable time ever.

However, Seefeld not only fits in with your winter time plans. It is also a top destination for hiking and climbing in the summer. Also, the astonishing landscape makes a photographer blossom inside you. Your album surely will not be the same after Seefeld. "You neither!".

danielbml : Introducing myself to the class (0)

Tomorrow I back to school in here and I'll introduce myself to my classmates, as tradicional:

"I'm so excited by backing to school that I've lost my words! Anyway, my name is Daniel, I come from Brazil and I've been living in here for 10 months. As I had never studied English before I found such a challenge to study in this level. Mainly considering that we lack only four weeks, but I'm aware that I have to redeem the time that is gone; at least, I'l try!"

Thanks
