What will you do when you say goodbye to a friend who possiblely
you will never see again?

You will just say Goodbye and go away, or hug each other? In
China, we are not used to hug friends when they leave, especially
between opposite-sex friends.

Yesterday a foriengn friend met me for the last time because he was
about to back to his country in a month. When he asked:"what will you do when you say goodbye to someone?" I said without hesitation:"Just say goodbye." I wonder whether it was appropriate.
Different ways of saying goodbye varies in different countries I think.

What will you do when you say goodbye to a opposite-sex friend
who possiblely you will never see again?

Here in Finland just saying goodbye works. Some young people likes to hug their friends before leaving, but it depends. In formal situation people usually shake hands when meeting and also when leaving.

I think I would probably hug or shake hands or something in the situation you told =) Still I think that your friend didn't get upset about that saying only goodbye!

Actually in America there are different kinds of hugs.
There is a guy-guy hug, a girl-girl hug and some others.

I think I would hug the person.

um...I'm looking for a Chinese name based of Gyuujuice. Gyuu is the character for cow, 牛. How do you say 牛?

Hi,
it depends on the relationship... If the person became a good friend I would probably hug him. Shaking hands is always kinda formal - so I don't like it that much. Just saying goodbye is fine too. It always depends on the people, the friendship and the situation. In Germany it is absolutely okay to hug someone when saying goodbye - even when he or she is from the opposite-sex. It might even happen, that you kiss each other on the cheek 2 or 3 times.

I think this is a cultural thing and I respect it when people/friends of a different culture aren't so fond about this ^_^. So it is okay to "only" saying goodbye instead of huging. I think your friend would understand.
