Hey my dear friends in Lang-8,

What's your favourite music? This time I would like to introduce some famous Chinese campus ballads . By the way, if you are laerning Chinese and you can sing Chinese campus ballads, you'll be more popular among Chinese.

"Childhood"(童年)sung by Luo Da you created a big influence on both the campus and society. http://www.kupig.cn/html/473/

"No Regret for My Youth",(青春无悔)sung by Lao Lang and Ye Pei. It's a typical song of the campus ballad style, whose strongholds are China's university dormitories, and whose lyrics are sentimental in outlook.

"My Desk Mate"(同桌的你) sung by Lao Lang became extremely popular in China. It can always remind you the precious time in school and what happened between you and your desk mate. http://www.kupig.cn/html/624/

Ye Pei's most famous songs, the naive but beautiful "White Dress Dancing". (白衣飘飘的年代)
Pu shu: "Where Have All the Flowers Gone" (那些花儿), "forest birch"(白桦林) These songs had soft and gentle melodies that left listeners with a leisurely and fresh mood. They caused a strong sympathetic response among university students.

  • They caused a strong sympathetic response among university students.
  • They were warmly received by university students. (Your sentence wasn't grammatically incorrect, but trust me when I say that it was a sentence that no native speaker would ever write. "Sympathetic" is a tricky word. It doesn't mean in English what it means in a lot of other languages.)

Not bad! Don't forget to put verbs in your sentences; otherwise they will be sentence fragments. Also, note that you should put a space after an English title when you give the Chinese characters in parentheses.

Hey Sprachjunge, thank you so much! Really I'm confused by the space put after an Englsih title. 同桌的你 means "my deskmate", the girl/boy who sits next to me. Is that right?

Hello Chino! Oh, about the space: Don't be confused! It's simple. Just put a space after the word when you put a translation. It looks nicer on the page. For example, "I like the song "Balloon"(Luftballon)" looks cramped. It looks better if you say, "I like the song "Balloon" (Luftballon)." Note the space after the last " for Balloon but before (Luftballon). That's all.

Ah, I see. Sorry, yes, in that case put "Deskmate." Just be aware that that is not really a word in English (although it is a useful concept!). We would probably say, "Oh, he was the boy who sat next to me," or "We were classmates--we actually shared a desk." Isn't it funny how languages can have gaps--where one language requires a phrase, another has an elegant word?

Brilliant selections! To tell you the truth, I haven't heard any of the songs mentioned.

Meanwhile, 那些花儿 sounds oddly familiar, and I think Faye Wong has a song with the exact title. Then again, I might be wrong. :)

Hey Hajar. Thank you! You are right. Faye Wong has sung a song called "那些花儿". Though few perple know that. Do you know any other Chinese songs or westen songs?

As a matter of fact, I do. I'm currently listening to Angela Zhang and Zhou Jie Lun. Actually, I listen to a vast number of Chinese songs. :) As for English songs, I'm hooked with Michael Buble.

Oooh I am familiar with their songs. Zhou Jie lun is very popular among the young people. The lyrics are especially fantastic. And Michael Buble, I only know he's a canadian guy and his song "Home":P
