What is a good student?
What is a good student? I’ve thought about this question for a long time.
When the first day I went to school, my teacher had told me if I wanted to become a good student I must study hard. Since then, I tried my best to study hard and obeyed my teachers'orders and was always polite and quiet in school. Of course, I did become a good student in my teachers'eyes, and both my parents and my teachers were proud to have such a good doughter and student. Then I studied much harder.
Today, I will be a teacher. What is a good student? This question let me begin to think back to my childhood. I ask myself did I really a good student? Did I feel happy? Was my school life full of laugh and merriment? Unfortunately, the answers are no, Although I got high marks in exams, I was not happy at that time, because I just did what my teachers want me to do, but not my own willings. Sometimes I think if my teachers have found my musical talent and maybe I would become a singer now.
However, in common people's opinion, a good student should always be of good behaviour and get good marks in exams. Nothing wrong with that, this kind of students certainly are good. But what about the others? I want to tell you the story about my younger brother Tom. He is a ten-year-old boy. And he’s got a very out-going personality. But his school work is a constant headach for his teacher. What Tom like best is football. He always says to me “football gives me power.” Last term, he joined the school football team and he has made his presence felt. Is Tom a good student? Of course yes, because he does very well in what he likes doing.
It is said that a child like a piece of white paper, it can be painted with all kinds of colours. The mind of a young child is quite plastic, which is children's nature. Every child has some kind of potential, if we are attentive to them, we’ll find what they are interested in. And our encouragement makes them more confident and I'm sure they'll succeed in their respective fields in the end. That is to say, there is no definite standard of a good student, but of a good teacher. Teachers are the painters to drow on the white papers. Lacking of patience and carefulness, they may destory a good paper. So in a good teacher's eyes every student is good.
