3. After watching the 1963 Martin Luther King “I have a dream” speech, tell me what would work differently in Japan. This is not for me to learn from you, but by understanding how things work differently, you are better able to do this in Japan and in other countries.

Because “I have a dream” speech is its universality, it is valid not only for American citizen of the day but also Japanese citizen of our time.

First of all, the King’s speech is as a whole an emotional speech rather than a logical approach.

Next, he was telling a story in neat chronological order, the past, present, and future of America. That is, it seemed to be accorded with our hope before, but the situation is not improving now. However, I have a dream.

Additionally, he used metaphors such as quicksands and solid rock to describe conflicting notions such as racial injustice and brotherhood.

Finally, he used iteration method which repeat catchy punch line such as “I have a dream”, ”Let freedom ring”. This method allowed not only he but also audience to inspire.
