中国现代的公民社会

邓小平施行改革开放之后, 中国经济经历了前所未有的增长. 这个经济发展彻底改造了公民的生活. 由于经济进步, 不仅导致繁荣, 而且导致公民社会的成长. Ross Garnaut 提出了自1980年起, 中国贫穷线以下的人已下降了估计2.41亿. 在过去, 这是连想都没敢想的事. 由于这个伟大的社会变革, 在中国兴起了一个新公民社会, 而且一些新观念. 如今, 中国的人民正在经历了一个沟通方式的革命, 不但手机成为了一个日常用品, 而且到处都可以上互联网, 为人们的交流带来了极大的好处. 这个现象在社会生活上引起许多的中国新观念, 带来了现代化, 政治自由化, 及社会自由化. 有的评论者还是认为在中国将来民主化的可能性比较高. 比如, Mark Chou 提出了一项2001年的民意调查, 结果揭示其中受访者百分之96支持中国的民主化. 这种观点表示中国社会的新观点, 表示公民社会的成长. 虽然发生了这种乐观的事情, 但是中国的社会还是面对不在少数的问题. 中国的人口大多数还是农村人, 周毅认为这个情况肯定对中国的城市化会有影响, 随着就对中国的经济和社会进步也有不良的后果. 尽管这样的问题, 中国的社会正在享受繁荣. 象征中国人民了不起的成绩.

Civil society in Contemporary China

Since the reform and open up policies of 1979 implemented under Deng Xiaoping, China has experienced unprecedented economic growth. This growth has transformed peoples lives. It has created increased prosperity, and the birth of civil society. Ross Garnaut notes that over the twenty years following 1980, the number of citizens living below the poverty line has fallen by an estimated 240 million. In times gone by, such an occurrence would have been unimaginable. As a result of this change, China has witnessed the emergence of a new civil society, and furthermore, the development of new conceptual ideas. These days, people are experiencing a communications revolution, the use of mobile phones has spread, and people even have access to the internet. This phenomenon has resulted in new conceptual ideas of Chinese society, and brought increased modernisation, social and political liberalisation. Some commentators have gone so far as to predict that from this phenomena and the rise of civil society, that in years to come, China may democratise. For example, Mark Chou notes that in a 2001 survey, 96% of respondents were open to the idea of democratisation. These changing views on social and political life represent a changing civil society in China. Despite these remarkable changes, Chinese society still faces many problems. China still has a mostly rural population, and Zhou Yi believes this will constitute a problem for China’s urbanisation, and subsequently, China’s economic and social progress. Still, Chinese society is flourishing, and peoples lives are becoming ever richer. This represents a remarkable achievment of the Chinese people.
