かぎ　第３章　-　違う電車

以下の話は２０１０年１月２２日の夜の内容です。2010年２月７日の日記の続編です。最初の部分は2010年1月31日の日記で書きました。

乗っていた電車でタイムズ・スクエアへ行って、アップタウン（北）の方面の電車に乗り換えました。ニューヨークーでは、電車の線は色に分けられます。そして、文字か番号に分けられます。それぞれ文字か番号は沿道沿い、他の文字か番号から分かれます。でも、普通か特急の違いと以外に、殆ど沿道は一緒です。僕が乗った電車（２・３）は96丁目の後で、1電車と分かれることって知らなかったので、違う辺へ行ってしまいました。

そして、乗っていた電車を降りて、ダウンタウン（南）の方面の電車で96丁目へ戻って来て、正しい電車を待たなければなりませんでした。二つの適当じゃない電車が来たが、乗られなかったから、１５～２０分で待っていました。残っていた遠さを歩くつもりで、駅を出るところで、やっと正しい電車が来ました。その電車を乗って、友達のアパートへ戻って来ました。

I took the train to Time Square and transferred to another train line to go uptown. In New York, train lines are split into colors, and then numbers or letters. The individual numbers or letters within a color will split or change from the other numbers or letters at some point along the route, but for the most part, they share the same route, with the possibility of certain ones being express, and others being local. I didn’t realize that the specific train I was on (the 2 or 3) splits from the 1 after 96th street, and so I ended up in the wrong area.

I had to get off and catch a train going back downtown to 96th street, and then wait for the proper train. A couple of wrong trains stopped by, which I couldn’t take, and so I was waiting for a good 15-20 minutes. I was about to leave the station and walk the remaining blocks when the right train finally came. I took that and got back to my friend’s apartment.
