The following is from the book I recently read.

They say, a genius has not been genius from the beginning. A genius is what is to be created, and everyone have a possibility to be a genius.

If a person has done some activity and he feel accomplishment or he receive a praise from others, dopamine, which is pleasurable substance for human being, would come out from his brain. Then he would feel he want to do it again.

If this circulation would work well, a person would come to like to do it and would make effort continuously naturally to obtain pleasurable feeling. He would be devoured with doing it, finally he become a person with great skill of it.

Regardless of science or sports or language or anything, it seems that a genius would come out through the above process.

This was interesting, even though I disagree that everyone can be a genius. You seem to be a genius though, with your English! Sorry, that was a little cheesy for me to say? :)

This is a classic psychological concept called "conditioning." It really resembles the Skinner box or Pavlov's dogs. While I agree that positive reinforcement of activities is a powerful incentive to continue doing those activities, I disagree with the premise that geniuses may be "created" using this process.

Of course, it's only my personal opinion, but I believe that people have two big factors that make them what they are. Those factors are "nature" and "nurture." Many people debate about which one is a more powerful influence, but I believe that they work in tandem somehow. For instance, I believe that some people are genetically predisposed to posess certain gifts and potentials. Maybe genetics sets a limit for how much a person can achieve. However, I think that the person's childhood, their studies in school, the effect of their parents, etc. has a large impact on that potential. You can think of it as being born with a certain size gas tank, and then filling it up with the money you earn. You might have enough to fill the tank, but you might not.

Of course, another argument is "what is genius?" Intellectual genius? Scientific genius? Artistic genius? Empathic genius? Where do autistic savants fit in? What about people who are exceedingly good at blatantly unimportant things? I guess I agree with the author of the book you read in that I think there are many unknown geniuses out there. I just disagree with how they come about. I think geniuses are a felicitous meeting of amazing potential and a choice upbringing. In other words, I think it's more accurate to say that many geniuses never realize their full potential, but those without the potential to begin with, even if they strive their hardest, might not reach the same heights. :-)

"Genius is one percent inspiration and 99 percent perspiration."

This is what Thomas Edison said, and this is my most favorite words. In Japanese, it is translated as "天才は1%のひらめきと99%の汗によって造られる", and it means that you should give a lot of effort to achieve something. I don't think all of us can be genius, but some people who has this 1% inspiration can be genius. So... ordinary people like me cannot be a genius but I still think I can give 99% perspiration to my dreams.

Even Ichiro is very deciplined to practice, though people believe he is a genius in baseball.

However, your theory is very convincing and very interesting! :)

Your comment is really interesting! Well, I have some friends who didn't go to college, but very smart. I heard that they didn't have an opportunity to study as they were very poor. As for myself, because my mother became very sick and she said she couldn't let me go to a college when I was a high school student. If she gave me an opportunity to study at college then, I may be working not as a nurse but an international person or something. But we never know the future. I went to college at the age of 30 by myself, and I think it was good for me. If I went to college at the age of 18, maybe I would drop out, because I didn't know how important education was at that time.

It's very fun for me to have interesting response on the issue I wrote, as well as I can have comment to my English itself.

As there are many opinion on what geniuses are, but I am very sure that people referred as geniuses have a grate enthusiasm for what they devote.
