Hey!

I'm trying to learn to write kanji.
But it's someting puzzling me.
On-yomi and kun-yomi. I know on is chinese pronounciation and kun is japanese. But!! I have learned to count (ichi, ni, san), but in my book it says that hito is one in "kun" and ichi is "on". :/ Do Japanese people use both? or do they always prefere the "kun" readings? If you mix between "kun" and "on", how can I find out what is normaly used? Or should I just learn them all by heart? :P maybe I'm just stupid, but this was hard!

All help is welcomed ;)

Yeah, it is one of the most difficult questions I have ever been asked.
We use both usually. And I do not think many people care which is which in Japan. In the course of the time we remember how to read the kanji.
For example, we say “ICHI-BAN” (一番). It means that you are the best, like you get the highest score on the test.
We say “HITORI” (一人). It means that there is one person, like I can do it by myself.
I suggest that you listen to Japanese with TV or radio.
GOOD LUCK!!!!!
