How do you have the New Year's holiday?
I got holiday from the 2nd to the 5th.
I ate Japanese New Year's dishes and visited to a shrine and drank alchol with my friends.
I will meet other friends, go to English school and give a party at my house in other holiday.
Today, I introduce Japanese New Year's dishes.
I made "Osechi"(Picture1) and "Zouni"(Picture2).
"Osechi" is various something food to keep for long time and mean happy and good.
It has black beans, small fish, sweet chesnuts, sweet omelet, steamed fish paste etc...
They have various meaning.
For example, black beans are like working hard, small fish are like rich harvest, sweet chestnuts are like wealthy, steam fish paste are red and white colors mean happy for Japan.
"Osechi" has really various something food to celebrate.
Other things are prawns, herring roe, red and white vinegared food etc...
Anyway, "Osechi" have many sweet food to keep for a long time.
"Zouni" is rice cake and boiled with vegetables.
We usually call it "O-zouni" for courteously.
This dish is different recipe at each home and each area.
I bolied with carrots and Japanese radishes in soysouce.
Other peple bolie with chicken etc in miso and use baked rice cake at time.
Carrots and Japanese radishes what I had mean color and shape is happy.
I spent the New Year alone but I enjoyed New Year's events!

どのような正月休みをお過ごしですか？
私は2日～5日に休みをとりました。
私は正月料理を食べて、初詣に行き、友達とお酒を飲みました。
私は残りの休みで他の友達に会いに行き、英会話学校に行って、新年のパーティーをうちでひらく予定です。
今日は日本の正月料理を紹介します。
私は「おせち料理」(写真1)と「雑煮」(写真2)を作りました。
「おせち料理」は保存がきいて、お祝いの意味のある様々な食べ物です。
黒豆、田作り、栗きんとん、伊達巻、かまぼこなどなど。。。
それらはいろいろな意味を持っています。
例えば、黒豆はまめに働くこと、田作りは豊作、栗きんとんは豊かさを、かまぼこは赤と白の色が日本にとってめでたいことを意味します。
「おせち料理」は本当に様々なお祝いの食べ物があります。
他には、海老、数の子、紅白なますなど。。。
それにしても、「おせち料理」は保存がきくようにたくさんの甘い食べ物があります。
「雑煮」はお餅と野菜の煮込みです。
私たちは普通、丁寧に「お雑煮」と呼びます。
この料理は各家庭や各地域で作り方が異なります。
私は人参と大根を醤油で煮ました。
他の人は鶏肉を味噌で煮たり、時々焼いたお餅を使います。
私が使った人参と大根は色と形がおめでたいことを意味します。
私は一人で正月を過ごしたけど、お正月の行事を楽しみました！

I spent my new years cooking food with my familly, we had wayyy too much food! I made Ribeye steaks, Bacon wrapped scallops and grilled shrimp with a pesto & parmasean cheese sauce. We also had lamb chops, salad, chicken wings, proscutto wrapped asparagus, baked potatoes, fried rice, won tons, a plate of mixed fruits & cheese and to drink we had a sparkling apple cider. I was so full!
How do you spend the New Year's holiday? [[I know, "spend" and "have" are strange words... ^_^* You might say, "Did you have a good New Year's?" but then in this case, you "spend" it. That is, "spend" implies taking the time and using it for a purpose. "Have" implies that the time is over, and asks about it. If you need more explanation, let me know. ^_^!]]
I am taking vacation from the 2nd to the 5th. [[Or, "I have a vacation"]]

[[Normally in English, "drink" as an activity implies drinking alcohol unless another beverage is specified. For example, "My friends and I went out drinking" = "My friends and I went to bars and drank alcohol" -- but "I drank tea with my friends at home" is of course a different meaning.]]

Anyway, "Osechi" has many sweet ingredientsthatkeep for a long time.

We usually call it "O-zouni" in order to be courteous.

I made the stew with carrots and Japanese radishes in soy sauce. [[These are called "daikon" in American grocery stores, too.]]
Other people make the stew with chicken etc in miso and sometimes use baked rice cakes.
The carrots and daikon that I used carry the meaning of joyous color and shape. [[This sentence is a bit strange in English, so I did what I could with your Japanese to make it sound natural. ^_^*]]

I could understand to use "spend" and "have" on your advise.
It is difficult and I think so that "have" has many meaning.
"Drink" is also difficult for me.＞＜
In Japanese, "drink" means "(mainly expect alcohol)を飲む".
But "(Let's go to drink!) 飲みに行きましょう！" mean drinking alcohol.
It is difficult but It is interesting!＾０＾

難しいのは「have」がたくさんの意味を持ってるからだと思います。
「drink」も難しいです＞＜
日本語では、「飲む」は(主にアルコール以外の物)を飲むことを意味します。
しかし、「飲みに行きましょう！」はアルコールを飲むことを意味します。
難しいけど、面白いですね！＾０＾
