Lifelong Education

In the era of technology and science, more and more adults return back to start college again. But it is well known that the opinion varies from person to person.
Some people strongly recommend such behavior. They point out the fact that people have found staying with the same company for a lifetime seem as outdated as the typewriter when faced with rapidly changing techonology. Moreover, incomes continue to climb with the number of degree held. So it goes without saying that going to college is a wise move.
Other people, on the contrary, hold the quite opposite opinon. For them, going back to school is only a waste of time without any gains, let alone the lifelong education! To make matter worse, lifelong education is really silly in eyes of many people and it tends to cause irony from our friends.
As far as I’m concerned, I firmly support the former idea. I think it’s essential to keep going forward for our own competitiveness. We have to stay conversant with the technology. Though learning while working seems to be a bittersweet occasion, we can learn to let all the negativity go in one ear and out the other. A college not only offers a medium by which we can get a degree, but opens up a brand new world we’ve never seen. Just as a saying goes: “It’s never too old to learn.”

Or do you mean that there is no gain from going back to school once, and there is even less gain from going back to school repeatedly throughout your life?]

In the US, income increases with the number of degrees you have up to an undergraduate university degree (B.A./B.S.). After that, income drops. On average, you make more money here by having a relevant undergrad major and then going into business than by getting a Master's or a PhD or going to a professional school.

I think that there is often an over-emphasis on technical subjects in schools. Many of these subjects are more useful for getting a job in the short term, but this kind of knowledge quickly becomes outdated. Being a good writer (of reports, not novels) is an important skill that will make people employable for their whole lives.

That's not a "bittersweet" occasion. "Bittersweet" applies to things like old love affairs that you remember both fondly and with pain. It often goes along with nostalgia.
