Lampshade

Yesterday was Mary’s birthday. She turned twenty. I didn’t know what to buy for her, because she is the kind of person who finds nothing completely suitable. So, I went to downtown in order to look in every mall. I didn’t feel like buying a book or chocolates or flowers. I wanted something more original. When I got tired of going from mall to mall and not finding anything enough good, I found a very strange store. It was like a museum of authors. There was the cane used by that well-known writer Oshima Kasaki. But I realized that that cane wouldn't be a good present for her. However I saw a lamp, which lampshade has the picture of Pablo Miyasaki on it. “Finally, here it is”, I said. So I bought it in spite of its price. It was very expensive.

  • There was the cane used by that well-known writer Oshima Kasaki. Good job with the hyphen, I know a lot of natives who don't use it correctly. =P

  • So I bought it in spite of its price.
  • So I bought it despite the price. I don't think the previous editor meant to take out the word "it". This is more correct.
