What to visit in UK?

I'm going to England this July. I will be spending 9 days in London, but I've got 5 days left to spend visiting other things.
I've thought about going to Liverpool. There, I could visit the cathedral, the house where two of them lived, and... I don't know else. I have to look the Website, although it's difficult to understand.
What do you think? Do you think I should visit 2 cities (which?), or is there any other city that has a lot to visit (like London)?
