Hello friends and teachers on Lang-8!
How are you doing? It was a rainy day where I am and it was cold today.
Now I've finished dinner and I'm now listening J-pop in my room.

By the way, at around 2:00PM this afternoon (about 6 hours ago), our annual kanji of the year was written by a monk at the Kiyomizu Temple in Kyoto.

Actually, I though this kanji would be selected because 新(new) was a suitable kanji this year. In Japan, the new leader Mr. Hatoyama was born, new political party won the election. New type of flu killed a lot of people all over the world. I guess there are many other reasons why this kanji was chosen out of thousands of kanji.

This is the airticle from Yahoo Japan.

Please study Japanese by reading this airticle. ^__^

Personally, however, my kanji of the year might be 忙 because I have been busy this year. 忙しい means busy in English.
What is your letter in 2009, by the way? If you don't mind, please let me know yours.Either Japanese one letter kanji or one letter English word will be fine!

Well, I will go out after writing this entry and replying to your comments you game me last night.

Good night from Japan!

Rose @>----->---------- who will enjoy a night drive with someone ^^

I think 新 is an appropriate Kanji for this year too. Many significant world events happened in 2009 so I feel it is appropriate.

My Kanji for 2009 would be 学 because I've been studying for the JLPT, and learning many things about the world through my university course. ^^

  • How are you doing? If you want to change this greeting once in a while I'll give suggestions: [How do you do?][What's new? or what's up? (informal, but we are all friends)][How does life treat you?]  these are different greetings if you want to try them.

I think it's a nice choice for a 漢字. I didn't like last years 漢字.

My 漢字 would be 婚. My brother and some of my friends are getting married this year.

日 Because I enjoyed my trip to Japan and met many new Japanese friends at my university

Hello Kame san ^___^
疲? I think it is a nice kanji for many Japanese too.
By the way, are you tired?
Dec 12th 2009 23:53 Rose_Garden

Hello shifu, ^__^

Hello Darkhonhour, ^___^
I know you did your best for JLPT.
I hope and I'm sure you will get the nice news next year.
As for myself, I had a good news that I passed STEP pre 1st recently.

Hello 牛juice ^__^
I see. I know it because I read your entry ago.
婚 is a happy kanji, isn't it?
When will it be yours, by the way? lol
Dec 13th 2009 00:06 Rose_Garden

Hello Rhyski, ^__^
You are right! You came here around this May and you told me about your nice trip via Skype.

Your kanji is very nice because it has two meanings in it.

One is 日本の日 and the other is you had nice days in Japan 日々の日.
Dec 13th 2009 01:08 Kame Sennin

Ahh I wish I could have used a different kanji. I have been tired due to exhausting classes we had in summer at college.
And then exams, and I had to start changing the way I study Japanese, to make it efficient...

I hope next year my kanji will be something like 平 or 勝 ^^
Dec 13th 2009 02:33 Kame Sennin

By the way, can the same kanji be used for 2 or more years?

For example, last year's kanji was "変", right?
Is there a way "変" could have also been chosen for this or the next year?

Also, can kanji that are not in 常用版辞表 be chosen for year, like "唖" ?
Dec 13th 2009 22:57 Rose_Garden

Hello Kame san ^___^
You are right. You have a good memory!
Our kanji in 2008 was 変.

Well, I think it is okay to choose the same kanji, however since there are thousands of kanji, we tend to choose the defferent one every year.
Dec 13th 2009 23:01 Rose_Garden

Hello again, ^___^
Generally speaking, kanji of the year can be chosen as a popular kanji everybody knows. So I don't think the kanji you showed us is not so suitable as the kanji of the year. But it will be okay the kanji was chosen beside 常用漢字.
Dec 14th 2009 06:15 ジャス

They choose a fairly straightforward Kanji this year! I always thought they'd only choose kanji with complex meaning behind them! ^_^ ahaha! Well, I can understand the reason they choose it!

Hmm, what would I choose for my kanji of the year, I'm not sure! I'd choose "hope" in English!
Dec 14th 2009 23:44 Rose_Garden

Hello ジャス ^_^
I also like the English word.
Well, let me choose one kanji for you!
I give you this kanji,"友” because you have been a nice friend and you are so friendly.
Dec 15th 2009 06:13 牛juice

lol "When will it be yours"... 5年だろうw。(へ。へ’)
