Thanksgiving.

Thanksgiving is a holiday.
There is lots of food.
Turkey, potatoes, yorkshire puddings and vegetables are for dinner.
Pumpkin pie, apple pie, and... lots of pie is for dessert.
I will eat a lot.
Dig in. (I know this isn't the real translation for いただきます but it's as close as I could remember.)

Yukie: Aww, thanksgiving is a great day. I ate so much I couldn't move for an hour. xD The day after thanksgiving is known as Black Friday and there tons of really good deals on everything. Black Friday is meant for Christmas shopping, but most people buy a little something for themselves too. You should come to America during thanksgiving time. :]

Thank you for your reply.
Do you read out a passage from the Bible before you eat dinner?
Dec 03rd 2009 09:02 SerialCow

Kazu: No. Usually, if a family is religious, the oldest male will say a prayer. It's nothing read from the bible in most cases, but I'm sure some people do read something. It will usually be something like "We'd like to thank you, our Lord, for the gifts which we are about to receive. We thank you for this food, for our family, and for every blessing you've given us. Amen," though. Thanksgiving isn't really a religious holiday though. It's a national holiday celebrating the first harvest of the pilgrims (the first "Americans" to settle here). I'm not a religious person myself so, when I grow older and stop going to my parents' house for Thanksgiving, a prayer probably won't even be said.

The dictionary says Thanksgiving to the end of year is time of year when Americans are most likely to be overweight. Be careful. Ha-Ha.
Dec 04th 2009 11:54 SerialCow

Kazu: Haha, yes that is very true. The holidays are when we eat a whole lot of food. It's an American thing to just eat too much at this time of year. I already gained some weight, but I was underweight to start with so it's okay.
