The sun and the moon

Think of the sun. Can you remember one day it stopped shining? Can you remember one moment it kept all its light to itself and refused to share it with us? Has it ever wondered if others are worth its light? Has it ever thought: " Oh, today is very cloudy, nobody will take advantage of my light. So, why should I shine?! "
The sun is merely shining.
Think of the moon now. Is it a star? No, it's just a planet, just a big mass of useless stones. Nothing special to mention about it.. But it once had a shining idea that not many other planets have thought about. It's that great idea of reflecting the sun's light!

I once heard the sky whispering: " if you can't be the sun, be the moon. "

Thanks for the correction! Actually, I know that the sun and the moon aren't people and that I should use the article "it" but in this entry, I wanted to personify them. I'm just wondering : if I keep referring to them by "he", will it still be English?

Yes, if you want to personify them, you can call the sun "he". I think that the moon would be "she" :)

Hola! If the moon is feminin then I'd better choose the article "it".
Yes, I don't want people to think that I mean women should reflect men's light:P
It's decided, I'll use the article "it"!
Thanks rsalc1 !!

It looks great after you changed it (Sun=he, Moon=it) :)

Haha, this is really funny:D
Maybe should I defend the moon but I prefer to keep laughing... LOL

  • No, it's just a planet, just a big mass of useless stones.
  • No, it's just a planetsatellite, just a big mass of useless stones.

As far as I understand it, a planet is a celestial body which orbits a star. The ones going around a planet is called "satellite." :P

By the way, the Mercury, the Venus and the Earth itself reflect much more sunlight than the Moon do. The Moon is merely located in the happy medium -- the Mercury and the Venus are too far and the Earth is too near for us to realize it. I think this fact may be interesting also in your metaphorical sense ;)

Your comment is interesting and it made me think seriously about the nature of the moon this morning.
If it is not a planet, then what is it? What is the criteria to let us consider a big orbiting rock as a planet and another one not? Is the word "planet" just a name or does it refer to a certain number of characteristics? I tried to look for the answer in the internet but it seems scientists are more confused than me! The definitions they are using are almost arbitrary.
