I want to translate a Japanese diary entry that a Japanese guy wrote in (or into??) English, since I thought it was fun to read.

From here on, it's his sentences. (Sorry, I'm afraid of infringing a copyright. I made it short because it was a little long.)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Someone told me this story before.
"One of my friends gave me a melon that he bought at a grocery store. The melon looked great on the outside. But after my friend left, I cut the melon and realized it was rotten inside. So I couldn't eat it at all. Anyway, I felt bad about telling him the truth, so I didn't tell him."
I thought something was wrong with that, and I asked him, "So, if you met your friend again and he asked you how the melon was, would you answer like, 'It was really great. My family and I were so happy to have it'? "
I guess your friend might think like this, "You said it was really great, but you don't look like that at all. You should express your feelings more!"
What about a return gift? Your friend might think, " You got a wonderful melon, but you won't give me anything in return?" You could go to a department store. But when you buy something, you might think, "Did I eat the melon? What am I doing now?"
The point is, if you find something weird, you should say something as soon as possible. Or you will have to lie over and over again. You can understand it when you think about it from the other's point of view. What would you think if you were the one who gave the melon to someone? You might want to know if the melon was rotten. Otherwise, you might think,"he told me the melon was really good so I should give one to another person." To tell the truth is good for both you and the other person. ("Telling" instead of "to tell" is better here?? Why? Maybe there is no rules..I have to memorize it...^^)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I read it and thought," That's right!." Especially in Japan, most Japanese people have a priority on the feeling that they don't want to hurt others, and they won't say anything. On the other hand, in the U.S., I think they think being honest is a most important thing. So what do you think about that?

Anyway, this entry was very long!! Thank you for reading.

I think you should tell the person as long as you're not rude about it. The indirectness of Japanese culture can be a bit irritating sometimes, in my opinion. XD

Interesting!!! It depends on the situation though!! Sometimes its best to say nothing. Since maybe that friend knew the melon was rotted and gave it to his friend anyway.

Thank you, borrrden, Quelsi, Lorry, and Sashasimba123!
I knew you guys are like, "Don't hesitate to tell me!"
I'm relatively very clear among Japanese people.
So I'm sure I don't make you guys get annoyed.
That means I seem to be relatively selfish for Japanese^^.
Thank you for your all corrections!
