Do you believe in the Evolution theory?

One day my friend Zhuzha told me that not everybody in the world believes in the theory of evolution.
I was really surprised, because it seems that there has been a triumph of science nowadays and even a baby knows from where we've come.
There is a very popular social network in Russia- www.vkontakte.ru, so I've been doing a public opinion poll among my friends and asked them to answer on a simple question: «Do you believe in the evolution theory
You can't even imagine how strongly I was surprised when I saw the answers of my friends! Besides pretty predictable opinions about God's origin (Theory of Creationism) there was a lot of opinions about extraterrestrial creatures which bred peoples on the Earth and a lot of others like that: "I'm not a monkey!" or "I'm not sure about God, but of course the Evolution theory is fake!".
I am an atheist and Darwinist and for me the question of our being was decided when I was in the middle school and my biology teacher showed us this picture with a monkey and a human.
Sure Darvin was a genius and of course his theory wasn't perfect in those times, but now it is improved and supplemented and I think we can talk about Evolution theory like it's a scientific fact.
However, a lot of people among my friends have other opinions! You know, they aren't always religious fans and most part of them have a good education and of course they are modern people from big cities!
So I had a big and hot discussion on my page in vkontakte.ru! It was like a war between Darwinists and Creationists, and it was really interesting to read all the arguments!
But I should say that there is one interesting opinion which is like a compromise... it is that God created evolution. Do you like it? =)

Almost perfect English. This entry is very interesting for me especially. I stopped believing in god when I entered high school, and started to believe in Evolution. I used to really not like religion of any sort, but now I am much more accepting. I wouldn't argue with other people's beliefs, but I think it is interesting to hear other people's opinions^^ If you have any questions about my comments or correction, please ask!

"God's origin" means the origin of God him(her?)self.

  • So I had a big and hot discussion on my page in vkontakte. "big and hot" just sounds awkward... I would say "lengthy and intense"

Some notes on terminology:

As was previously mentioned, we always say "theory of evolution" instead of "evolution theory", although you will hear "evolutionary theory." "Evolutionary" is the usual adjectival form of "evolution".

The "improved and supplemented" version of Darwin's theory that you referred to is usually called "The Modern Synthesis" (basically Darwin + Mendelian genetics) or "The Neo-Darwinian Synthesis" in scientifically literate circles.

The final god-directed hypothesis you mentioned is commonly called "theistic evolution."

Good job!
