Karaoke is international. In Korea, there are many karaoke boxes, I don't know what they call it.

In the US there is karaoke at some bars and some people do karaoke at home, but I don't think it is quite the same as in Japan.

In the US, there are very few places designated to just karaoke, in comparison to Japan. Some people do things like have a "karaoke night" at their house and some bars hold karaoke nights/contests.

I think Japanese people are probably a lot better at karaoke than Americans... one time there was a karaoke contest being held at the mall and it sounded horrible! ...even the American pronunciation of the word "karaoke" is horrible! They say it like "Kari-oki" x3
