Youkai is also called Ayakashi or Mononoke. It is like ghost or hobgoblin.Well, in Japan, there is famous Youkai,Zashikiwarashi. They appear as children. They looks 5 or 6 years old in Kimono or Chanchanko. It is said that if they live in one house,it prosper. But leave house,it decline. So the family care them not to be angry. They are very mischievous .They make sounds to surprise the family. And play with children. They are so cute Youkai. But adults can't see them.It is natural, considering the origin.

They were born as a result of killing by their parents so as to reduse the mouth in poor farm village not having enough food in the old days.Children not knowing the reason were killed by parents..they probably more want to play.Nevertheless not to be evil spirits, only to continue to bring happiness and play.Zashikiwarashi are such Youkai.

I feel one side of way of thought to Youkai by thinking Zashikiwarashi.I think we intend to soften the unacceptable tragic fact and feelings by picking them on fantasy .It is obvious Zashikiwarashi were made by adults who knew the fact they killed them.It is tragic. The fact is too tragic. So they made fantasy to flee from the fact. And the consciousness of sin appears as the fact if we offend Zashikiwarashi they bring misfortune.

In old age it was not rare kidnap or sell person, they attribute disappearance of children to Youkai. But actually they know children were kidnapped by others or sold by themselves.I think they softened the fact by attributing the unacceptable fact to fantasy of Youkai containing sad.

~When I watch Zashikiwarashi program I thought this.I'm sorry if the meaning of fantasy different from Japanese fantasy. And Sorry,so long. Please correct as long as you can.

It's been a long time! This was very interesting as I've heard about Zashikiwarashi but not too much. It was hard to translate in many points because you tried some hard sentences and for the most part you did a pretty good job. It's good to try to do things beyond your level every now and then to test yourself as much as possible!

Don't worry about length. (One suggestion which is kind of hard to implement is that when making long posts with English and Japanese have the Japanese sentence right after the English one for easy reference).

Comment:
When using commas leave a space after. "A, B" not "A,B"

You don't need to capitalize "youkai" or other foreign words. They aren't proper names of people or places. Usually, you put foreign words in italics. I have tried to correct your English to reflect your Japanese. I hope that my corrections make sense.

This was a very interesting essay! I didn't know about the origins of zashikiwarashi. Thank you for sharing it!
