A Special Choice, Ice Wine

If you want to drink light and sweet alcohol, ice wine would be a good choice for you. Ice wine is less popular than normal wine but it has “an intensely concentrated and complex aroma and rich, lingering flavors” as their promotions claim. It has a special process just like its name. When grapes are frozen on the vine, it is gathered and must be pressed appositely, not strongly nor weakly resulting in a small amount of more concentrated juice so it makes very sweet wine. This happens because the sugars and other dissolved solids in grapes do not freeze, only the water does. The sole demerit of ice wine is its price due to the limited amount of the grapes. Also, ice wine supply is severely threatened by the weather and environmental conditions which are different each year. Such variables include wild animals eating the grapes and the weather being too warm for freezing conditions, and rot. Germany and Austria’s ice wine is the most expensive because of its quality and small yield. However, Canada’s ice wine is rather more popular than the others and guarantees good quality in contradiction to its price. If you want to try ice wine on a limited budget, you could choose ice apple wine as an aperitif. Actually, ice apple wine is an alternative choice, but you could end a perfect meal with it. If you bored with drinking common red and white wines, you should certainly give ice wine a try.

집에 Aple ice wine이 있길래 먹어 봤는데 오래전에 먹어본 캐나다 산 ice wine과 비슷해서 꾀 좋았어요. 요즘은 ice wine도 많이 알려졌지만 몇년 전만 해도 그게 뭐냐는 반응이었죠.^^;
그나저나 아이스 와인 드셔보셨나요?

I actually do not drink alcohol, but you made it sound nice, even to me. Well written and a very interesting read. I can say I have learned something new today.

Keep it up.

Wow, great work here! And very informative. I like dry red wines, but I also love plum wine, so perhaps Ice wine is a good choice for me. I will check out my local liquor store and see what they have! Thank you!

Chris, thanks so much. Your corrections are helpful to figure out my mistakes, especially 6th and last corrections. I love to learn these expression; 'be bored with' and 'give sth a try'. I didn't find these when I searched on on-line dictionary.
If you try ice wine, please let me know how it tastes.

ldaniels21, Hi. I never try plum wine. Is it sweet and light? When I traveled the Rocky mountain, I bought a ice wine and then I was bankrupted by it for a few days. But I could treat my family with ice wine so I could not foget its taste. It means a lot for me. ^0^ Do you find ice wine in your neighbor liquor shop?

-->so it makes very sweet wine.
Does it need 'a' or not? Is it countable? I am so confused.

Good morning, Julia!
I don't blame you for being confused...my head hurts just thinking about your question!
->so it makes very sweet wine.
Does this need an "a" article? I don't think so. You don't use articles for things in general-like cookies, for example. "The" cookies refer to a group of cookies. "A" cookie is a specific, special cookie. So...you could say "Chocolate chips make cookies taste better" or "If you don't use cold butter, you'll get chewy cookies" and people will know you are speaking about any kind of cookie that any person can make at any time.

Is this wine you wrote about any kind of wine made from a small concentration of grape juice? I think so. Therefore, you do not need to use an article.

To be totally and 100 percent honest, though, this is a situation where you could use either one. If you write "Makes a sweet wine", I'd just assume you are talking about a special type of wine instead of any wine. And you are, in a way, right? Such a process makes a sweet wine. Such a process makes sweet wine. One says "Such a process makes a different kind of wine, a special, sweeter one" , and the other says "Such a process makes wine taste sweet".

I think both fit, don't you?

I hope this helps! It is VERY confusing, and English speakers will mess this up all the time, so do not feel too much pressure to understand. I had to look up a lot of examples myself!

Sarahu, Thanks. I corrected my writing several times but it still remains mistakes. I love to know my mistakes because it is a good chance to learn it from my mistakes. ^0^

ldaniels21. You help me so much. It is really huge.(It sounds like Konglish.) Articles... Oh my.. Ohh~! Thanks you.
This month, my goal is "Comple a sentence" instead of just the words or phases so I need to practice it more whenever I speak. ^^
