Introduction
I will be traveling to Japan in 10 months, so I am preparing language wise. For introducing myself, would I say . . .
(keep in mind I only know katakana and most hiragana, but I am learning more each day)
こにちわ! はじめるわたしわアレシスです。
Would that be a polite method of introduction?
And also, I am very confused. When is it correct to use this ー symbol in katakana?

はじめまして。わたしのなまえはアレシスです。
When is it correct to use this ー symbol in katakana? When we say about words come from foreign countries, we use katakana. For instance, bus→バス chocolate→チョコレート guitar →ギター That's why your name also is used in katakana. Clear??
