As you may know, the nuclear power plants in Fukushima prefecture were broken due to the big earthquake occurred last Friday.

That causes the shortage of electricity in Kanto region including Tokyo, now.

The Japanese government appealed the people living in Japan the save on electricity.

Therefore I'm trying to the save on electricity now.

I had stopped the air heating and air cleaner in my room, I stopped to use the washing machine and began to wash my clothes by hands.

When I began to do such energy saving life, I have been feeling the preciousness of electric.

I think the electricity is like the air, because we realize for the first time how important there are in our life.

  • As you may know, the nuclear power plants in Fukushima prefecture were broken due to the big earthquake occurred last Friday.
  • As you may know, the nuclear power plants in Fukushima prefecture were broken due to the big earthquake occurred last Friday. [[This word is not wrong, however I feel that "damaged" is a better choice here as it is more natural.]]

  • That causes the shortage of electricity in Kanto region including Tokyo, now.
  • That is causing [[or "That is the cause of"]] the current [[or "present"]] shortage of electricity in the Kanto region including Tokyo. [["Now" at the end of the predicate makes the sentence construction awkward. It is more natural to include this with the subject as suggested above.]]

  • The Japanese government appealed the people living in Japan the save on electricity.
  • The Japanese government appealed to the people living in Japan to save on electricity.

  • Therefore I'm trying to the save on electricity now.
  • Therefore I'm trying to the save on electricity now. [[You may consider "Therefore I'm trying to conserve electricity now."]]

  • I had stopped the air heating and air cleaner in my room, I stopped to use the washing machine and began to wash my clothes by hands.
  • I had stopped using the heater and air purifier in my room; I also stopped using the washing machine and began to wash my clothes by hand. [[Although this is actually two separate sentences, because the ideas are related you can combine them with a semicolon ( ; ). Another way to write this would be to make two full sentences: "I stopped using the heater and air purifier in my room. I also stopped using the washing machine and began washing my clothes by hand."]]

  • When I began to do such energy saving life, I have been feeling the preciousness of electric.
  • After I began such an energy-saving life, I have since realized the preciousness of electricity. [[A natural and conversational way to phrase this would be, "I have since realized just how vital electricity really is."]]

  • I think the electricity is like the air, because we realize for the first time how important there are in our life.
  • I think that electricity is like the air, because we realize (now) for the first time how important they are in our lives. [["Our" is plural, so "lives" is plural.]]

When we have severe hurricanes here in Houston, such as Hurricane Ike, we also have no power. I remember in 2008 when Hurricane Ike hit. I was without power for a week and without water for several days, but others had no power for almost a month.

Thank you for your detailed corrections and comment.
They are very informative one for me.
I'm encouraged to hear that you and people in America were experienced the similar situation and overcame the difficulties.
I'm feeling sure that we'll struggle to the difficulties and overcome, too.
I'm thanking for your kind messages very much!!

It's so easy to take things like electricity for granted because we have access to them all the time. I remember when we didn't have water and power for a month after a big typhoon, it was so difficult. Hopefully the situation at Fukushima can be sorted out soon, and they can contain the radioactive materials without harming anyone.

Thank you for your message.
I'm surprised that you have experienced the shortage of the water and power such a long time.
However, I'm encouraged the fact that you and many American people had overcome the difficulty.
The fact makes us think that we can definitely overcome this situation in Japan, too.
Thank you again.

  • As you may know, the nuclear power plants in Fukushima prefecture were broken due to the big earthquake occurred last Friday.
  • As you may already know, the nuclear power plants in the Fukushima prefecture were damaged due to the big earthquake which occurred last Friday. (I agree with the person above me, "damaged" is a better choice")

  • That causes the shortage of electricity in Kanto region including Tokyo, now.
  • That is causing a shortage of electricity now in the Kanto region which includes Tokyo, now.

  • When I began to do such energy saving life, I have been feeling the preciousness of electric.
  • When I began to do things to save energy, I realized the preciousness of electricity. [As I began doing things to save energy in my life, I realized how precious electricity is.]

I never thought of electricity being like air, but when you put it this way, it makes a lot of sense.

So many things are run by electrcity in our lives, from our refrigerators to traffic lights.

I hope that we can find new ways to make energy such as using power from water, wind and the sun.

Thank you for your corrections and comment.
I understand the word "damaged" is better than the word "broken" in this article, it's informative for me.
I'm hoping new ways of make energy such as you mentioned, too.
They must be inexhaustible and probably are safer and cleaner than the current energy source such as oil, nuclear power, and so on.
Anyway, thank you for your agreement in view of my situation.
