I'm...so.....sleepy....

but I'll write one sentence.

What is the difference between “due to ...” and “because of ...”?

Please.....tell...me...someone....

haha! Very cute!

I believe "due to" is a more formal way to say "caused by". It modifies a noun. "Because of" is more common, and modifies verbs.

So....
I am exhausted because I watched television all night.

My mistakes are due to the fact that I am exhausted.

Do you see the subtle difference? If not, please do not worry! Native english speakers mess this up ALL the time, and I promise that almost no one will correct you in daily life. Only study it for exams :)

Commonly, these words are used like this, interchangeably:

due to--a bit more formal

because of--a bit more casual

HOWEVER, you can think of it in better/more accurate terms this way:

they are approximately the same in meaning, but vary SLIGHTLY in grammatical use.

"due to" modifies a noun before it
"because of" modifies a verb before it.

EX: His success as a writer was due to the popularity of his first novel.
vs
He succeeded as a writer because of the popularity of his first novel.

y is due x (x and y are things, nouns)
y is the CAUSE of actionX (<--because of<--be it the cause of...)

again, most people blur this distinction in everyday use

hope that helps.

それにしても…色んな事よく知ってますね…。^ ^;
鰐は当字ですね。「顎(ガク/あご)」からきてます。
昔は口が大きくて噛む力に優れている動物は大抵まとめて「鰐」と呼ばれていて
「鮫」も「鰐」と呼ばれていました。
生物学的に区別する必要ができてからは「鮫」や「鰐」は分けて書かれるようになったそうです。
まさか、こんな豆知識をこんなところで…。(- -;

ほー、詳しいですね。
そういえば、鮫を鰐と書かれてることを見たことがある。

  • What is the difference between “due to ...” and “because of ...”?

There is not too much between the terms. They pretty much have the same meaning. I think is kind of like 「から」「ので」.

Thank you for your correction, Smashley. ^ ^
I see.
It's nearly same mean like 「から」「ので」.
That's good explanation. Thank you. ^ ^
