Unfortunately, a lot of people commit suicide every year. Not only adults but also children do.

I have translated an advertisement copy made by Japan Advertising Council.

“Life is important. Appreciate life.” Being told this thousands times or tens of thousands times is not as effective as hearing “you mean a lot.” With these simple words, I can live.

It’s tough to put this kind of thing into a different language, isn’t it?

I think it’s true. Everyone needs to feel loved and cherished by someone without conditions.

This is an interesting advertisement! I study psychology, and I did a report on depression and suicide in Japan last year. It seems that while in America it may seem obvious that those who commit suicide are depressed, that belief isn't as present in Japan. Though in this advertisement, it does seem to target those who are depressed.

Hello Syk3,

Thank you very much for the corrections.
So you did a report on depression and suicide in Japan. Then I am sure you know well that it's one of the serious problems in Japan. I feel very sorry for those who committed suicide and their families who have to suffer from the loss for many years to come...

jaken-san,

I hear that teachers teach children importance of life at school, but I don't think it works. This advertisement is targeted at parents and adults, which I find good.

Erika-san,

Thank you very much for th link!
It's really good to read.

I agree with you. We need to tell children from time to time that we care for them.
