Music review :
"Handcream for a Generation" by Cornershop
This album has unique sense of music because there are blends of rock, hip-hop and Indian musics. While listening to "People Power", I felt so cheerful that I could dance to the music. Its extraordinariness makes audiences feel refreshed and free. Also, new trial to mix different musics was nice to express their superiority especially in "Sounds Super Recordings". In that track, the background was Indian music to match well for belly dances and there were sounds from African musics in respect of color of sound and rhythm. They made an uncommon harmony. The artists of the album showed diversity could be interesting and nice.
However, I think there is no unified theme in the album so I could not catch the flow of the album. The order of the track is irregular and musics which have other characteristics appear suddenly so I would not be able to decide if each song is involved in the same album. The album is so experimental that I can't expect what is the next. Moreover, the background sounds do not match the lyrics in some tracks. For example, although "Motion the 11" gave me a humorous and mysterious mood but it also gave a little strange feeling that the background sound played alone being out of harmony with the lyrics.
Overall the album showed us a new concept that music can be mixed and generate synergy. The artists expressed their "own" music by blending different musics come from other countries effectively. It can be a breakthrough from old and uninteresting musics if they have a unified subject in their album. The artists presented a lot of opportunities but they were ambiguous and vague. If they planned albums more concretely, it would help to make better ones. I believe that they will come up with better next album.
