I'm very confused about Japanese Word 'ありがとういございました.'
I thought it was past tense of 'ありがとうございます.'
(In Japanese they aren't really distinct.)
However if so, I should say 'Thanked you.' when the thankful matter occurred at past.
I think it's wrong.

I see, it's not past tense, I agree with you.
I automatically used to say the word till now without thinking about grammar.
By the way,
'ども' is correct about slang, but grammatically wrong.

In English, "thank" is a verb. "I thank you" means "I am thankful to you", or "I am grateful to you". "I thanked you" sort of implies "I *was* grateful, but I'm not any more". So in English we always say "thank you".
In Japanese, ありがとうございます is simply 敬語 for ありがたいです (有り・難い: "difficult to happen", "rare"), and ありがとうございました = ありがたかったです. So the term means more or less "what you did is / was a rare thing". So both are seen.

...which implies a change. That someone did something for you in the past.

I think it's same to English. So I feel strange about 'ありがとうございました'.
Because I think it's past tense by mistake.
However it seems not to be past tense, I can simply say the word.

You can use it when you want to explain Thank you NOW for something which occurred in the past.
verb ＋ました＝past
but
ありがとう is not verb but phrase.
