What type of special unfomal days are there in your country ?
Chinese single day, today.
今日、11月11日は、中国では、独身の日というそうです。
並んでいる数字の1が、独り身を表しているのだとか。
on 11 November, it is a single day in China, because a shape of number "1" is similar to a single body!
それに対して、日本の場合は、形でなく、音で語呂合わせします。
Otherwise in Japan, we have defined many special days by the readings of day number characters.
1月11日を犬の日とか、2月22日猫の日とか。
わかりますか?
For example, 11 January is dogs' day, 22 Feb is cats' day. Can you recognize them ?
1は、英語で、one、これは、日本語の犬の鳴き声ワンに聞こえます。わんわんわんで、犬の日。
"1" is "one" in English. this sounds is very similar to dogs' call in Japanese "WAN". So, 1/11 sounds "WAN WAN WAN", which means dogs' calling. lol
では、猫の日は?
2は、日本語でに。 にににですが、これが、やはり猫の鳴き声にゃ~にゃ~にゃ~ と似て?いるということです。
Well, How do you explain cats' day , 22 Feb. ?
"2" is "NI" in Japanese. So, 2/22 sounds "NI NI NI". After all, we image this sound could be similar to cats' call in Japanese "NYA NYA NYA " ^^;
あなたの国には、どんな変な記念日がありますか?

On 11 November, it is Singles Day in China, because the shape of number "1" is similar to a single body!

Pi Day falls on March 14th! (3/14)
What type of special informal days are there in your country ?
Today in China is "Singles' Day."
(translated: I've heard that today, 11/11, is called "Single's Day" in China,)
(perhaps because the line of "1"s look like unmarried people.)
November 11th is Singles' day, because the shape of number "1" looks like a single body!
(On the other hand, in Japan, there are more plays on the sound of dates than their writing.)
(1/11 being Dogs' Day, or 2/22 being Cats' Day, for example.)
(Do you know why?)
(1 is pronounced "one" in English, which sounds like the Japanese "wan," the sound that dogs make.)
(So, "wan-wan-wan" is Dogs' Day.)
(And what about Cats' Day?)
("2" in Japanese is "ni.")
(So, "ni-ni-ni," sounds like a cat's "nyaa-nyaa-nyaa,"
doesn't it?)
(In your country, what sort of strange special days do you have?)

今、変なことを知ったばかりです。
In Japanese there are the words 記念日 and 休日 and 祭日, but in English I can only think of "holiday."
日本語では「記念日」と「休日」と「祭日」という言葉があるけど、英語では”holiday”しか思いつけません。
There are so many different cultures in America that every day is most likely someone's holiday.
アメリカに色々な文化があるから、毎日は多分、誰かの祭日でしょう。
Nov. 11, however, is a holiday for everyone, Veterans' Day.
しかし、11月11日はアメリカ全国民の、「復員軍人の日」という意味の”Veterans’ Day”です。
It's a holiday to express gratitude to all current and retired servicemen and women.
全ての軍人と退役軍人に感謝を表す記念日です
The date was chosen because it is the anniversary of the end of the First World War.
月日を択ぶのは第一次世界大戦の終わりの記念日だからです。
There are also pun days like Dogs' Day.
犬の日のような語呂合わす日もあります。
Pi Day, 3/14, is an example.
3月14日のπの日が一例です。
My favorite strange holiday is International Talk Like A Pirate Day on September 19th.
僕の一番好きな変な記念日は9月19日の国際的海賊方言の日です。
I don't yet know how to talk like a Japanese pirate, but it's a lot of fun in English.
まだ日本の海賊風に話し方を知らないが、英語では、すごく楽しいのです。
haha, Pi-day, I see ~ March 14 15:09:26 :)
I have found another meanings of 11 November. That is a battery day :D
"11" is "10" + "1";
"10" is writtern "十" in Japanese kanji, and "1" is written "一".
^^; you know ? Thats a "plus charge" and a "minus charge" xD
