masumi : A Man from England (0)

Many governments warned their citizens and a lot of foreigners evacuated from Japan.
As well it should.

However, there are still many foreigners in Japan.
A British man who I watched on TV is one of them.

He had lived in a small town in Hokkaido for fifteen years.
After the issue of the Fukushima Daiichi power plant came out, he had wondered whether he should go back England or not. And all of his friend urged him to go back England.

He had decided to go back home and moved to Saitama.
At there, he watched an interview on TV.

An old woman was on the interview.
She said "I lost everything. But I wouldn't go anywhere else. Because I have been belonged here."

When he heard her interview, he changed his mind at once.
Next day, he left for Hokkaido to rebuild.

Some friends of his became upset when he got back.
However, after they understood his decision, they felt a sense of gratitude.

Now, he and his friends have been working together for their community.

masumi : Emergency Earthquake Alert System (1)

Emergency earthquake alert system delivers an alert when an earthquake (more than 5M) occurred.
After the main shock occurred in March, the alert has became delivering alarms to our cell phones and TV.

While I was on a train last morning, cell phones rung at once.
Once I hear the alert, my heart leaps into my mouth.
The warning sound is too laud and it cites anxiety every time.

Japan Meteorological Agency announced about the loss of precision of this system few weeks ago because of the aftershocks.
However, this is the only system which we are able to protect ourselves before an earthquake comes.

But I realized that I can't do anything on a train...

masumi : Japan Earthquake (2)

I was in my office at the time of the earthquake.

At first, I didn't think it was so big. But five seconds later, I realized that this was not the same as usual and I huddled under my desk at once.

During the earthquake, I was crying in horror.
The shaking continued one or two minutes and it seemed like endless time.

After the earthquake, colleagues and I escaped the building and went to the evacuation area.
There were hundreds of people and we couldn't understand what happened.

The second shock of the earthquake occurred several minutes later.
There were some lightings on 15th foolr, I guess.
And those were swung hard as if its cables would break.
Also, our building itself was swug hard as if it would jar with the next building.
Some people were screaming in horror and I couldn't see our building with tear.

After things calm down, we were back to the office and began to go home.
All trains stopped due to the earthquake. However, a colleague of mine came to the office by car. Thus, she gave me a lift a part of the way.

Traffic was hell.
I left her car on the way and began to walk.
There were hundreds of people walking on the street.
I couldn't use cell phone to call but not internet. Thus, I checked the distance on internet.

It was less than 20 kilometer from the point. Therefore, I decided to go home on foot. Because I was desperately worried about my dog and cat.

It took about four hours to my house.
Fortunately, there was not broken stuff and they were safe.
I couldn't watch TV because cable television didn’t work. After an hour, it fixed and I was shocked by the damage on TV.
The tsunami was not seem like reality. Who would have expected this?

A series of aftershocks is still continuing now though it is decreasing.
However, I will never forget this huge crises and I would like to make effort toward the recovery.

I pray for the victims and wish for peace.

masumi : Twilight (0)

I finished reading 'Twilight' in one sitting.

When I saw the review in Amazon, that sounded typical to me. So, I had no intention of reading it even though I was interested in it somewhat.

I was reading 'My Sister's Keeper'.
The review of the book was pretty good, so I bought it then. BUT, it was difficult for me because there are a lot of medical and legal vocabularies.
And, a colleague of mine recommended 'Twilight' eagerly, and he brought the book for me. Thus, I switched it to 'Twilight' for a change.

Once I read the book, I was not able to stop reading indeed.
I could understand why girls prefer the book when I finished it.

I could finish it about ten days though usually it takes about one month to read a paperback. And now, I have been reading the second book, 'New Moon'.

I really fell for this vampire series ever since I've tried it out. ;-)

masumi : iPod (6)

I got a 1st generation iPod nano as a bonus when I bought a mac computer few years ago.
As I remained, I had wanted the iPhone, so I hadn't intended to renew the iPod nano.
However, the iPhone 3G is a little bit inconvenient.
I can't use Emoji, which is a small picture, in an email and Suica, which is a commuter pass.
Also I heard that the battery is not good.

Thus, I completely changed my mind when I saw the new iPod nano.
The shape is very stylish and it has some good functions, like the Cover Flow and the musical Genius.
Unfortunately, I couldn't buy the 18GB version because it was sold out.
Therefore I decided to buy the 8GB version.
My determination was so fast, but choosing color was very hard.

This is my birthday present.
It was meant to be because the renewal day was my birthday. ;)

Last weekend, I went to a BBQ party with my colleagues in spite of the bad weather.

I picked my colleagues up and went to Tanzawa-lake.
When we reached there, it was drizzling.
But the rain stopped while we were preparing the BBQ.

Do you know a watermelon splitting game?

In Japan, we sometimes play the game.
The rule is quite simple.

1. wear an eye mask.
2. search the watermelon and strike it with stick.
3. one who can break it is winner.

I could spend a lovely day with them.^^

I went to Kiyokawa river which is beautiful river in Kanagawa.
The clarity of the water is very high and the color is bright blue but water temperature is too low, so I can't soak in the water long time.

BOO, who is my dog, likes 'eating' splattered water, so she paws the water happily though I can't understand what she is doing...

Also she can swim very well, but she is unwilling to swim...
Thus, I always put her in the water for her training. ;)

How is the photo? Her face is very serious, isn't it?

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows which is translated in Japanese has gone on sale this week.
I bought the original book last year, but I couldn't read it.
For a reason, the book which is an American version is too heavy to hold...

Now I've been reading the Golden Compass in English, so I'll try to read the Harry Potter after I finish the book... :)

Anyway, is there anyone who read it already?
Please let me know the impression if you read it.

I went to see fire works yesterday.
The Yokohama opening the port memorial fire works is one of big fire works in Kanagawa.
My friend and I went to Yamashita park to hold a place at 1 p.m.
At the time, hundreds people had been waiting already...

I left my friend there and went back to home to put my car back.
And then, I went back by bus and train...

According to last year's data, 430,000 people went to see the fire works.
When I returned to our space, there were hundreds of thousands of people.
The fire works was held at 7:30 p.m.
It's very tough to hold a place, but the fire works were so beautiful and it really got to me!

Next big fire works will be held at Minatomirai on August 1st.

masumi : Yokohama (5)

My hometown is Mie prefecture that is located in the middle of Japan.
I had came to Yokohama by a company transfer and I've been living here for seven years.

Incongruously, people who live in Yokohama will say 'I live in Yokohama' if you ask them 'which prefecture do you live in?'.
Actually, Yokohama is a city of Kanagawa prefecture, but hamakko (this is a person who live in Yokohama) never say 'I live in Kanagawa prefecture' in common conversation (I've never heard it.) because they are very proud of living in Yokohama.

I couldn't understand why people never say their prefecture. But now, I will answer that 'I live in Yokohama' if you ask me...

Doesn't that strike you as weird?

masumi : Dog wear (7)

A big shopping mall opened near my house last year, so I go there once a week for shopping.
There are some dog shops and I usually buy my dog's clothes at one of them.
The shop gave me an invitation of secret bargain sale last week, so my dog and I went there for both a walk and shopping today.

One who has the invitation can buy clothes at the half price, so I bought a shirt which can be matched with skirt which I have.
I can enjoy these clothes because it is possible to combine each other by buttons.

In Japan, small dogs are popular because of housing situation.
Especially, one who lives in near Tokyo is difficult to have a single-family house, so I think it is difficult to have a big dog.
However, I want to have a big dog someday...
