Today, it rained heavily at noon

Today at noon, when I was about to pick up my niece from her primary school, it rained heavily outside.
I put up an umbrella and walked in the rain.
The air was grey. They sound of rain echoed in my ears.
All the pedestrians were unfurling their umbrellas and cautioning not to be splashed by the rain.
I was cautioning too but the rain still splashed my shoes and the bottom of my jeans.
While I was awaiting the traffic light, the cars raced past and almost spattered rain on my clothes.
When I arrived at the school, my shoes and bottom of jeans were soaked.
The rain came violently but stopped quickly. It stopped in the meantime of we going back home.

The sky was grey.
The sound of rain echoed in my ears.
All the pedestrians were opening their umbrellas and being careful not to be splashed by the rain.
'unfurling' is not wrong but it is not generally used to describe the opening of an umbrella. It is more often used to describe when a flag is hung up on a flag pole or a sail is put up on a ship.
I was careful too but the rain still splashed my shoes and the bottom of my jeans.
While I was awaiting the traffic light, the cars raced past and almost spattered rain on my clothes.
'almost spattered rain' is correct but it would be better to say 'and almost splashed my clothes' or 'and almost splashed me'
Also, 'awaiting the' is a little formal and 'waiting for the..' is probably better.
When I arrived at the school, my shoes and the bottom of my jeans were soaked.
You don't need 'the' here but it is not wrong either.
The rain was very heavy but stopped quickly.
It stopped in the meantime of we going back home.
I do not understand what you are trying to say here but this perhaps:
"It stopped before we left to go home"
You are so kind!
