I was born in New York City, on the island of Manhattan, in a hospital on the upper east side called Mount Sinai. My parents were living there at the time.
My father had a beautiful sailboat on the west side of Manhattan that we would live on in the summer. We also had an apartment on the upper west side.
After graduating, I worked there for 12 years before I moved to Miami about one and a half years ago. I used to work in a skyscraper, on the 34th floor, with a beautiful view of the Empire State Building. As the weather changed from day to day, I would take photos out the window of my office. Here are a few of them.

เมืองนิวยอร์กที่รักของผม
ผมเกิดที่เมืองนิวยอร์ก บนเกาะแมนฮัตตัน ในโรงพยาบาลที่อยู่ทางตะวันออกตอนบน(ของเกาะ) ชื่อเมานท์ไซนาย ที่พ่อแม่ผมอาศัยอยู่ขณะนั้น
พ่อมีเรือใบลำงามอยู่ทางตะวันตกของเกาะ ซึ่งเราพักอาศัยตอนฤดูร้อนเรายังมีแฟลต (or อพาร์ทเมนท์) อยู่ทางตะวันตกฝั่งทิศเหนือของเกาะด้วย
เมื่อเรียนจบแล้ว ผมทำงานอยู่ที่นั่น ๑๒ ปีแล้วก็เคื่อนไหวย้ายไปที่ไมอามี หนึ่งและครึ่งปีก่อนเมื่อประมาณหนึ่งปีครึ่งที่ผ่านมา เมื่อก่อนผมเคยทำงานตึกสูงชั้นที่ ๓๔ อยู่บนชั้นที่ ๓๔ ของตึกสูง แล้วมีทิวทัศน์ที่สวยงามที่ ของตึกเอมไพร์สเตท ตอนที่สภาพอากาศเปลี่ยนแปลงวันทุกวัน ผมจึงเก็บภาพออกจากหน้าต่างสำนักงานของผม ที่นี่มีบ้าง นี่เป็นภาพบางส่วนครับ

"กานดา" ใช้กับ ผู้หญิงที่เรารัก และ มักจะใช้ในบทกวี ( - used with a beloved woman and usually found in poetry or song. Also found in Thai woman's name) ครับ

ผมไม่แน่ใจเรื่องการเรียงคำของ คำว่า the upper east side ในภาษาไทยครับ ผมคิดว่าเป็น "ทางด้านตะวันออกตอนบน" หรือ "ทางทิศเหนือของฝั่งตะวันออก"
คำว่า upper กับ lower ภาษาไทยน่าจะเป็น "ตอนบน" กับ "ตอนล่าง" แต่ผมคิดว่า อาจจะใช้ "ทิศเหนือ"กับ"ทิศใต้" ได้เหมือนกันครับ ฟังเป็นไทยดี :-)

Ian, I wonder if "upper east side" and "north-eastern side" are the same or not? Please help explaining it. Thanks.
We would never say the northeastern side of Manhattan, but we would say that Manhattan is located in the northeast (of the country) and Arizona is located in the southwestern part of the country. I guess "upper east side" is in some sense a term of art to refer to these neighborhoods in New York. Just the way we have SoHo (south of Houston street) and "the lower east side" and "midtown".
Some neighborhoods of course have real names, like Chelsea and Murray Hill. But even Wallstreet is named after the street that ran along a stone wall that once upon a time divided lower Manhattan from the wild forrest land to the north.
So the trick to translating "upper east side" and "upper west side" is to NOT translate them purely directionally, but to translate them in such a way that it sounds more like a definite place or designated area.

I havent climbed up 34 floors, though I have climbed a mountain at an altitude of 3015m. (+_+)
