High school students can choose the class

In universities, we can choose the class that we want to listen. However, in high schools, we can't choose the class, so does middle, and elementry schools. By the way, some people claim that high school students can choose the class, but the other people disagree about that. Today, I am going to write an essay about this.

First of all, I think high school students should not choose the class that they want. Here are the reasons. First, it has economical problems. As you know, universities are very big, so they can include many kinds of classes. However, high schools, they are much smaller than universities, thus they have to make their schools more bigger than before. And if we want to make high schools bigger, we have to build more constructure and it will take a lot of money. Also, we haver to hire more teachers. It will take a lot of money, either.

Next, they have to study basic things that we have to do. If we choose the class, we can choose for free. Therefore, we don't need to study kind of basis like math, English, etc. There must be trouble if they study sports, music instead of these. And then, it could be very hard to go to the university because we have to take a test about math and English. However, if we don't study about this, of course it could be very hard.

In conclusion, high school students should not choose the class because it has economical problems and they could not study although we have to do.

[AWK] means the sentence is technically correct, but sounds awkward and I don't know enough of what you wanted to say to correct it properly.

Footnote 1: Just saying "Here are the reasons" is a bit too direct and also extremely short, your topic sentence (first sentence in a paragraph) should tell people your reasons since it is a persuasive essay.

Footnote 2: Never start a sentence with AND, in formal writing the word AND is never ever used to start a sentence. If you see it in a book, that's because its used for stylistic effect.

Footnote 3: Don't use pronouns like, I, we, us, they, or them. Avoid these as much as is possible. Him and her may be more acceptable, but it just kinda varies per the situation.

Footnote 4: In a persuasive essay, you are writing about what your opinion is so saying things like "I think..." is redundant (unnecessarily repetitive).

As for students choosing their classes, it can be done while avoiding the issues you express. In the US what happens is students are required to have taken atleast X amount of core (English, Math, Science, etc.) and X amount of other classes. We get class list with all the different classes we can choose from and some are labeled as core classes and some labeled as other. Overall we can choose the specifics of the class, but we cannot choose to not take classes like English and etc.

OBJECTION (I disagree, lol)! Generally high school students have no choice but to accept the programs their guidance counselors put for them. In my case, my high school is college-based. We do have the freedom of choosing what our classes are but we have to fulfill high school credit requirements (which is taking a certain number of math, English, science, history, art, music, health and gym classes to pass). We wouldn't fall behind other high schools because we have the freedom to choose the classes we want. Our guidance counselors keep an eye on us to make sure we're doing the minimum requirements to graduate. Another thing is, our high school is one of the two only high schools that allow such class-choosing freedom in NYC.

Which was what I was trying to explain, just without the connotation that we have no freedom. I honestly think it's almost like a really nice compromise, but in Wisconsin it seems a vast majority of High Schools are like that...
