The original sentence is correct, the "correction" is incorrect!

I think that "kitchen" is an indefinite general object. There is no specific kitchen here.

Hmm... "the kitchen" sounds much more natural to me. An alternative could be "a kitchen". I know what you mean, but to remove "the" (or "a") I think you need to add an S to make "kitchens".
