> Does that mean there are too many crows?
No, it's just a group of crows. Like a "flock of sheep" or a "herd of cows". There are some very strange ones too though, like a "crash of rhinos" or a "sleuth of bears" - there are different ones for different animals!
by the way, does "murder of crows" means "殺人カラス"?
crowが複数形になるとcrowsですね。
murder of crows
普通に日本語に訳すと”カラスの殺人”となりますが、
murder of close
ニュースなどで”絞め殺す”と言ったのに”カラスの殺人”と聞こえる、ということですね。
crash of rhinos
サイの激突
sleuth of bears
クマの探偵
さて、、なんと言ったでしょう?
Wow......I didn't know about English collective nouns.
An ARMY of ants.
A RAINBOW of butterflies.
A SCHOOL of dolphins.
A COLONY of ants.
Do they all mean like "flock of sheep"??
Why do some words have some different collective nouns?? Like "an ARMY of ants" and "a COLONY of ants"??? I've herd that Japanese counters are so confusing for non-native speakers, like 1枚2枚、1匹2匹、1頭2頭、1本2本、1冊2冊 and etc..
But English collective nouns are also a bit confusing and interesting!
Very interseting! We say 大群(たいぐん)群れ(むれ) 行進(こうしん)
例えば、ありの行進、ありの群れ、ありの大群 など、、、。
おもしろいですね。
多分自分は聞き間違えて、『え、カラスが人殺したの?』って言いそう(笑)
気をつけて聞きとるようにしないといけないですね。
Thank you for your comments and corrections everyone!
どうもありがとうみなさん
Yes, collective nouns can be confusing. But most English speaking people only know a few of them too, so don't worry! :-)
