How to Japan
The other day, I saw an advertisement of a book titled "How to Japan."
Have you heard of it? I haven't heard of it but it seems to have become a bestseller.
It was written by a British journalist who had lived in Japan for 14 years, and shows Japanese society in English. It is like introduction to Japan for non-Japanese people who is going to live in Japan.
The advertisement introduces a few of the content.
Here you are.
- You cannot see Kabuki in Kabukicho.
- For the nth time someone ask you if you can eat natto.
- Find out your blood type, and your shoe size in centimeters.
Sorry, if you don't live in Tokyo, you could have no idea about the first one.
Regarding the second and third ones, if you live in Japan, you might nod in agreement. (^o^)
Especially, we Japanese often talks about blood type. Each blood type is associated with character. For example, people, whose blood type is A, is serious and a stickler for detail. When somebody asks you your blood type, he generally has already guessed your blood type from your character. So after you answer to it, I bet his reaction is either "I thought as much!" or "Ah, that's incredible!" (^o^)
By the way, almost Japanese people know their own body size, such as shoe size, height and weight.
But I have heard that some non-Japanese people don't know their height or weight and it's not rare case. Is it true?
Do you know your height and weight?
And, do you know your blood type? If you plan to live in Japan in the future, find out them. haha!!

It is like an introduction to Japan for non-Japanese people who are going to live in Japan.

Awww, my blood type is A+ does that mean I'm supposed to be a stickler? : (
I wonder if I should check the book out myself...
Sand, just to let you know, you are very impressive with your English. ^^
Well, I actually have no idea about my current weight and height, or shoe size ^^;;
I don't think people care much about that in Croatia.
When I was applying for scholarship for studying in Japan (失敗), I needed to find out my blood type, so..... it's O+
Otherwise, I don't think I'd ever find that out XD
Can you guess what kind of person I am? (口_へ)
For the others, from most common to least common would be shoe size, weight and height.
Shoe size is common because when people buy shoes, they will know from their last pair what size they were.
Weight is also much more accessible because you require just a common scale and most people have them. Height, on the other hand, is checked the least because there is often no reason to go to the trouble of measuring.
I know my height because I am relatively tall and am often asked how tall I am.
The other day, I saw an advertisement for a book titled "How to Japan."
It was written by a British journalist who had lived in Japan for 14 years, and describes Japanese culture in English. In America, "society" usually refers to wealthy people, as in "high society".
The advertisement shows some of the content.
- For the nth time someone ask you if you can eat natto. Originally this sounds like you are being asked if it is possible for you to eat natto.
Especially, we Japanese often talks about blood type.
Each blood type is associated with a characteristic.
For example, people, whose blood type is A, are serious and a sticklers for detail. The word "people" is plural in this context, so you'd say "are" and not use "a".
By the way, most Japanese people know their measurements, such as shoe size, height and weight. The different sized of your body is called your measurements. In the US anyway.
But I have heard that some non-Japanese people don't know their height or weight and it's not rare case.
If you plan to live in Japan in the future, find them out.
people's characteristics a while back.
I'm A negative. I can be serious and I
am a stickler for details sometimes.
しかし、僕は迷信が嫌いです。
Of course, people usually know their own height and weight, unless you really don't want to know and hide from doctors....

But I have heard that it's not uncommon for some non-Japanese people to not know their own height or weight .
Is that true?
If you plan to live in Japan in the future I suggest finding them out.
