NHK Drama "Return from Pearl Harbor"(真珠湾からの帰還)

I watched a NHK drama "Return from Pearl Harbor"(真珠湾からの帰還) last night. The plot of it is that a sailor attacked to Pearl Harbor rode into a submarine in December 8th 1941, ant he failed to attack, then he was taken a prisoner of war.
After he arrived a prisoner's camp in USA, he learned English and read the newspaper. So he negotiated for a camp's director about Japanese prisoners's treatment. I thought that it was important to negotiate using the native language. Therefore I want to improve English skill.
