Hakone Ekiden(箱根駅伝、はこねえきでん), long-distance where is Tokyo to Hakone relay road race in January 2nd and 3rd. 23 university tames left Tokyo toward Hakone at 8am. The first half is 108km from Tokyo to Hakone, and the latter half is from Hakone to Tokyo. There are 5 relays each, and they hand their sash to the next runner. Almost all Japanese love Hakone Ekiden, and a lot of Japanese watch it on TV.

However, in this case, they're leaving one location to go to another, so you use "for", unless you put a verb before it. "left Tokyo and ran towards Hakone" would be correct, but somewhat awkward here.)

Relay races look fun. But I don't think I could ever run that far...
