The thing (遊星からの物体X)

I like to eat sea cucumber, which is marinated in rice vinegar for several hours, pickling them slightly.

I understand it looks unedible or "the thing", however there is no reason I dislike it because my family have cooked it since I was a child. My mather served it on Shogatsu (New Year).

Today, I found a fresh sea cucumber in a fish market. I sliced it and marinated it for a while with some slices of red pepper. When I gutted it, I felt gross a bit. ^^; But it tasted perfect!

Man....that looks disturbing! It looks like something out of the "Alien" movies!!!!!!

But it looks very tasty in the 3rd picture:)

I think I have eaten weirder things. Like, before I was vegetarian, I ate cow tongue and intestine.......bleh.

@0@ I guess that's the kind of thing you get used to when you live on an island. How fascinating!

In Hawaii we have one that looks tasty from the start and it tastes even better than it looks. They Call it Namako. It is white with purple stars on it. It is one of the most delicious things I have ever tasted. We went to Pila'a to get it at night. I was camping on the next beach when the tsunami was supposed to come. I would try to get it more, but if I touch it, it melts. I have the wrong chemistry to collect namako.

eeeeeew!!! I can't believe you like sea cucumber (SO NOT like a regular cucumber). My mom sometimes uses it in stews n stuff, I pick them right out! They're so mushy and squishy and rubbery, if you put it in your mouth, it seems like it moves byitself!!!

Anyways, thanks for correcting my diary! じゃね〜

Cow's tongue is poplula and very expensive food in Japan. ^^

I thought dirty thoughts when I saw the first picture. >____<;
My mother also made sea cucumber dishes ever since I was a child, but I still dont' like them. The books taught me that they are the "trash men" of the sea.

I don't think that sea cucumbers could be any worse than squid or octopus. I've had both and they are quite delicious. I would try sea cucumber.
