Hello, everybody. Long time no see.
I will be at parents' home for three days off and I'm connecting to this site now.

I actually have not contracted a new provider at new residece in Kamakura due to some reasons.

My day first in Kamakura was not bad and Shonan is a beautiful place.
I want to write about my latest topics more, but I don't have spare time now. Sorry, but I'll see you soon.

Ciao.

Ciao is Italian, but it is used in English quite often too. I'm glad you're finding Kamakura to be a nice place. =)

Right. I didn't mean to imply otherwise. I was merely disputing David's etymology.

In general, any common expression for "hello" or "goodbye" (or "good morning", "good evening", etc), from any of the major European languages (Spanish, French, Italian, German) is understood and used by pretty much everyone in the English-speaking world. We say "bon voyage" probably more often than "have a good trip".

We also know certain ones from non-European languages, e.g., shaloam (from Hebrew) and sayonara (from Japanese).

("Hasta la vista" is a special case; we used to just use it for "goodbye", like in Spanish, but ever since a certain influential action movie in the eighties its meaning has evolved somewhat, taking on more of a threatening connotation, like "Look out, I'm going to fix your little red wagon now". Especially if you say it in an Austrian accent.)

Oh, I forgot to mention Qapla'. Pretty much everyone knows that one too (though most people probably don't know how to spell it).
